Rate increases in Switzerland

Despite our efforts to control and to reduce costs, we are obliged to increase our rates in 2008 because of the big changes that occurred. Here are a few explanations regarding these changes:

  • Less loading room (less room = less offer)
  • Constant congestion of the road axes in Switzerland and Europe (less productivity).
  • Congestion of the airfreight axes as well as the sea freight axes mainly from Asia to Europe (less offer but more demand).
  • Exchange of the “loading material” that has to be managed by the forwarders.
  • Increase in fuel costs by all means of transport.
  • Global increase of charges (Salaries, training, IT, insurances and other charges related to freight forwarding).
  • Extended customs workload transferred on to the Swiss freight forwarders.

The inland trucking charges themselves have increased by 6%.
The other general charges have changed for about 3%.
