New certification for "known shippers"

Following controls from the FOCA (Federal Office of Civil Aviation) it has been discovered that many of the Safety Managers working for the shippers weren’t aware of the full extent of their responsibility and liabilities.

In order to improve the reliability and the homogeneity of the safety chain, ALL the employees related to an export occupation at the known shippers premises will have to be familiarized to the regulations by the Safety Manager who will have followed a course from an independent validation center. The whole process will be expected to cost from 8’000CHF to 12’000CHF and will be valid for 5 Years.

For “unknown shippers” a safety tax will be invoiced by the airport. The quantum of this tax is still to be defined and will cover the bunker and X-ray charges. This process will delay the shipment of about 24hours.

It is recommended that all companies with more than 40 shipments per year get registered as known shippers.
